She declines to state precisely which parts are truth and which parts are artistic licence, but Lily Allen's 2025 album West End Girl is both her masterpiece as a songwriter and a concept album in the most traditional songs. Depicting the breakdown of her marriage to actor David Harbour, she races through a large range of musical styles and takes us on the emotional journey of her insecurities, betrayal, acceptance and finally reckoning. Running this through NotebookLM gives Steve and Sharon the opportunity to dissect the themes both of each song and the narrative that runs through the entire album. This is over 20 minutes long but a very worthwhile listen indeed. And I learned things that Lily is telling us that I never really picked up on before.
